Who we are
The Minnesota Genealogical Society (MGS), founded in 1969, is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit educational organization
dedicated to helping people explore and preserve their family history.
Our purpose is to:
-
Foster interest in genealogy and family, state, and local history.
-
Collect, preserve, and share genealogical and historical records.
-
Provide education through meetings, classes, workshops, and events.
MGS fulfills this mission through genealogical education and access to resources at the Hoffman Research Library in the Minnesota Genealogy Center. The library offers an extensive collection of materials, including vital records, military records, immigration and mapping resources, and research from states and countries around the world.
Together with our branches, MGS provides both education and community—helping members connect with others who share a passion for discovering their ancestors.
