  Instructor: Lisa Minogue

About the class:

State (and territorial) census records can help us fill in the gaps between federal census years (including that 20-year gap the loss of the 1890 census gives us!) Learn how to find what states (over 40) have their own census records, how to find what information they contain, and most importantly, where and how to find them. There will be time to work on a provided in-class exercise - or bring your own.

About the Instructor:

Lisa Minogue was a software architect and a computer science professor before retiring to spend more time on her family history. She loves to find creative ways to use old records to solve genealogy problems. In 2023, Lisa completed "Advanced Skills in Genealogy" through the National Genealogical Society. She presented at the North Star conference in 2024 and 2025. She has found her ancestors in state census records in 10 different states, including Minnesota, Iowa, and Wisconsin.
