The Upper Midwest Genealogy Institute returns to MGS 7-8  August. UMGI is a small and friendly two-day institute-style program for family history researchers who are ready to advance their research skills.

UMGI 2026 will focus on resources and strategies for 19 th - and early 20 th - century family history research—with an emphasis on families moving to or through the Midwest. Registration opens on 6 April.

This year’s program blends lectures with student exercises that give students an opportunity to apply what they’ve just learned. Instructors include J. H. Fonkert, CG, Jessica Fontana, and Elizabeth Williams Gomoll, CG. 

UMGI is live and in-person at the Minnesota Genealogy Center in Mendota Heights.
